chronology of ibo and there response to arrival/settlement of english

The interactions between the Ibo and the English man are very strenuous at best. I think that they could have gotten along much better if they had tried to learn each others cultures.
The Englishmen though of the Ibo as savages and nothing more. they used them to generate profit and to help in the colonization of Nigeria. They say that everything that the Ibo say about religion and how to live your life is wrong because they are heathens. They disapprove of the Ibos way of life in most ways, such as they killing of twins and the sacrificing to the gods. The attitudes of the Englishmen greatly affects there treatment of the natives. They treat them like there dirt and like they do not know anything.
The Ibo think that the Englishmen are very foolish. They do not understand the idea of the holy trinity, and they think that there ways of not beating children and wives is just weird. They do not like the English justice system, especially the jail. They do not understand the idea of jail because they do not have anything like it. They think that you should be fined and then get back to your work instead of wasting away in a cell. Lastly, they do not like the idea of monogamy. They think that a man deserves many wives instead of just one.

Mother Is Supreme

Blog

I think that Okonkwo refuses to accept the proverb because he is so self centered. He takes in only the things that he can do himself, or that he is capable of. He is not capable of motherly care/love, and so does not understand why it is so important. One of the ways he refuses to acknowledge these virtues is that he is able to remorselessly beat his wife and children. He does not care that he is hurting them, and never really expresses guilt in the book. Another way that he does not acknowledge these virtues is that he thinks that anybody how shows affection is weak. Because of this, he does not think his son is very manly because he shows care and affection to others. This one sidedness creates many problems in his life. For starts, near the beginning of the book, he beat his wife during peace week. He had to make a payment to the gods because he did not believe in these virtues. Another way it creates problems for him is when he accidentally kills the boy at the funeral. It was an accident, but instead of feeling sorry for the people around him, he felt sorry for himself. This made his time being banished much worse than it should have been.

DO i like Okonkwo?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

i write this entry to answer that simple question: no. i do not like him one bit. there arr three reasons why i don't like him at all.
the first reason i don't like him because he tried to kill his wife, and failed miserably. not only did he try to kill his wife because she was picking leafs off the banana tree, he missed too, and went to check on her after words. i mean, if your going to kill your wife, at least hit on target.
the second reason I don't like him is because he sacrificed his son. It wasn't really his son, but they treated each other like father-son, and he sacrificed him just to make himself look stronger than his own father. this in turn makes him weaker because he con not stand up for his children.
The last reason I don't like him is because he is always trying to be a mocho man figure. he is willing to forsake his family members to make himself look better.
