Why Dreams Fail

In my opinion, dreams fail because they are just dreams: dreams. They are a visual manifestation of hope inside everybody. They are based of an unrealistic idea that in the end everything will be great. Unfortunately, most of the time this does not turn out to be true. In this book, George and Lennie have the dream of owning a farm. In the end, it will not happen because it is one of those things that is just too good to be true. Another book I cite is Things Fall Apart. The people hoped that the new colonialist governments would go away, but they didn't. And in the end, they all lost. Even in life these moments happen. When family members are dieing and will not recover, we still hope they will. This is not a bad thing, as it does keep most of us from falling apart.

What does it mean to be a friend AND the place to belong one.

How is it for important is it for humans to have a place to belong, a place where people know and love? It is important for people to have a place to belong where people know and love them because it makes us all feel secure and safe with where we are. Without a home, humans would not be very different from the common animal in that we would be alone, with no one to help and support us when we are struggling. I think that without this basic feeling of mutual survival, humans would not have been able to get where we are today. Another reason it is important for us to have a home, in the modern world, is because our lives are always changing. We are always moving, going fast, not taking time to relax. A home is important because a home doesn’t change and it is a place where you can relax and forget about the outside world, if only for a while. This kind of a home is what sets you parents house apart from an apartment you are renting until you can afford a house. One you feel safe among you family, and the other is just to put a roof over your head in relative comfort.

What is a friend and what does it mean to be a friend? A friend to me is someone who looks out for you and has your back when you need the help. A friend will not talk about you behind your back, will not betray you to save there own skin, and will not take advantage of you. On modern high school society, it may seem like these kind of friends are hard to come by, but there out there. A friend is also someone who you can have fun with without the feeling of mutual resentment you might find in a brother to brother relationship. To be a friend is to much of what I stated above, but as an added component, you have to stick up for your other friend. If someone is making fun of your friend, you stand up for your friend instead of just sit there.

Why the Government should not bail you out. (Topic one)

I chose to write about this topic because it is happening as we speak in Washington. The government knows that we are currently in an economic crisis. But, they are choosing to bail out all people who say they need the money. I think this is wrong because of the consequences of these no strings attached bailouts. The first thing i site is welfare. While in theory it is a good idea, in reality the results are quite mixed. Some times the person receiving the aid will be able to pull themselves out of poverty. But then we come to the other group of these people. A lot of people feel they no longer have to work to make money or feel scared to work because if they do, they will no longer receive a welfare check. This does not help at all. A private organization that has a large amount of oversight about where the money goes and how it is spent is a much more reliable way of doing things. A church for instance can tell the recipient of the money how to spend it and how to get a job to get on there feet again. Also, private organizations can create incentives to get jobs in the way that the government can't. These could include free daycare for children, aid on school supplys, ect. another reason not to be dependent on welfare is if the unemployment rate gets to high and to many people apply for welfare the government will not be able to pay everybody.

Lit homework

“Love and insight is better than love at first sight.” Do you agree or disagree? Why? I agree because if you go on an impulse when you first meet somebody it could result in problems later on because you don’t really know the person

Was it right for Romeo and Juliet to run off and get married? Or was it foolish? Or both? Explain your response. It was foolish because the two were not ready for each other and knew each other for 15 minutes. Also, they were members of the opposing houses, which meant even if it turned out that they could last in a relationship, they wouldn’t be able too.

Was it right for Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves because of their love for each other? Why or why not? No it was not. There ignorance and unwillingness to accept anybody else left them thinking they were worthless without each other. It was very selfish for them to kill themselves.

Was it wise of Friar Lawrence to give the potion to Juliet? Why or why not? No it was not because there were other much lower risk way that he could get Juliet away from her family and out of the coming marriage. Although it was simply misfortune that Romeo didn’t get the message, there were still other ways.

What do you think of Capulet’s orders that Juliet marry Paris? Was he correct to do so? Why or why not? He was not correct in forcing Juliet to marry Paris because in doing this caused Juliet to resort to extreme measures to get out of the marriage. Had he given her a choice, she would have said no and gone on with her life.
